In 1991, Columbus was ranked sixth among American cities in innovation and design by the American Institute of Architects. In 2005, Columbus was named one of America’s “Dozen Distinctive Destinations” by the National Trust for Historic Preservation

The Columbus Visitors Center has over 25,000 guests annually. Groups from over fifty colleges have visited in the past three years

The archives are open to anyone who is interested in exploring the materials related to the architectural structures of Columbus. Your call, or email, will set us in motion to get you access to the thousands of documents and other materials currently housed in the bottom of the library (west side of library shown in photo above).

University classes may make advance arrangements to have specific architect’s drawings and documents pulled for study and discussion.

Some records may be restricted by statute, donor agreement, current owner/occupant of the structure, or the Columbus Indiana Architectural Archives.

PROFESSIONAL VISIT :

Practicing professionals may arrange to peruse redevelopment proceedings, site studies and proposals, restoration, photographs, architectural drawings, specifications, and constructions documents.

Modern Architecture research enthusiasts may follow the development of design in the second half of the 20th century through drawings, magazine articles, photographs, and community records.

Historians of late 19th century architecture can peruse photos and architectural drawings of the early Columbus period of design (existing and no longer standing structures).
